My own favorite Adobo Cookbook by Gene Gonzalez
Available direct from the Tindera!
Everybody loves adobo and Gene Gonzalez literally dishes a dozen and one ways to come up with a different version each time. It's a book I purposely bought while still in the Philippines to take with me to the US, and it is something I will always have in the Tindahan inventory.
Gene Gonzalez makes it easy for even the novice cooks to come up with sumptuous versions of this favorite dish. This is a keeper!

Lucky Man: A Memoir
I grew up watching FAMILY TIES, and I got the chance to catch the last season of Michael J. Fox on SPIN CITY. As he became more involved with advocacy for increased funding for research on Parkinson's Disease, the illness that has plagued him for more than a decade now, he metamorphosed from just another big movie star to someone who embodied the celebrity as a public figure beyond the screen. The book is well written and a little verbose in some points. I must admit that in the beginning, I had my doubts that he wrote the book in full. But once you get into the rhythm of his writing and find yourself immersed in his story, then you get the sense that indeed, it is Michael J. Fox speaking. It is easy reading because it is not thick as a tome, but it is full of emotion and a brute honesty that touches you at the core. Highly recommended!

Find Me
I initially met Rosie O'Donnell as one of the actresses in the chick flick "A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN" years ago. I discovered her talk show when I got here and I found myself tuning in to her show everyday while waiting for the INS to issue me my work authorization. (It didn't come until January 2001, so between July and December 2000, I saw a lot of her.) I picked up a copy of her biography from the Mid-Manhattan Library but didn't really learn much about the person she is right now, except that the book gave me an insight into the person she was before the celebrity. FIND ME revolves around more recent happenings in her life, focusing particularly on an encounter with one of the beneficiaries of her chairty. She does come out in the book but not in so many words.. for those of you hoping to find the juicy bits about her sexuality, you will be disappointed to find that reference is made to topics of this nature in a very tangential way. It is light reading, though, and worth sitting down with overnight.
